These Teams Again? World Series Features 2 of 5 Most Winningest Clubs

The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals are playing for the 2013 World Series Championship.  Each team has been in this position many times before.

The Cardinals have eleven World Series titles, trailing only the 27 of the New York Yankees.  St. Louis last won in 2011.

The Red Sox have won seven World Series, tied with the Giants for fourth most ever.  The Sox last won in 2007 and their 2004 World Championship was the first since 1918.  The Red Sox traded away legendary player Babe Ruth after the 1919 season, leading to an 86-year drought dubbed “The Curse of the Bambino.”

The two teams have played each other three times in World Series play.  In 1946 and 1967, the Cardinals won in seven games.  In 2004, the Red Sox swept the series, 4-0.
