Floyd Mayweather: Ronda Rousey Makes Boxing “Look Bad” With Ring Magazine Cover

Floyd Mayweather: Ronda Rousey Makes Boxing “Look Bad” With Ring Magazine Cover

With Ronda Rousey’s current fame status, she’s quickly gaining herself millions of fans… and critics. One of the latter just happens to include someone famous too, none other than the notorious Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself.

You may have seen the female UFC bantamweight champion on the newest cover of Ring magazine, which is really just one of the features that she’s done in the past few months. It hails her as the first ever MMA fighter to grace the cover of the “Bible of Boxing” for 93 years.

Given the magazine’s focus on boxing, many boxing fans reacted negatively because of the fact that Rousey is not even a boxer (although she is facing boxer-turned-MMA fighter Holly Holm in her next fight). The recently retired pound-for-pound king also took notice—and he didn’t like it, either.

“Well, you know, congratulations, but you know the sport is starting to look bad when a female fighter from a whole other sport is on the cover of a boxing book,” Mayweather said in an interview with FightHype.

This is only the latest word clash between the two, after being at odds with each other since Mayweather suggested that she “didn’t know who he is” when asked about the UFC’s first and only women’s bantamweight champion.

Cyborg to Rousey “This Fight Has To Happen”

Cyborg to Rousey “This Fight Has To Happen”

ufc logo

After a very quick finish in her UFC Bantamweight Title Defense in UFC 190 against Bethe Correia, Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey is set to face Miesha Tate for a third time, giving Miesha Tate another chance for UFC gold.

Cris “Cyborg” Justino, Invicta FC’s Featherweight Champion has been talking a lot how she and Rousey should do the fight. The only reason this fight has not happened yet is because “Cyborg” has not made weight yet as she fights in the 145 pound category while Rousey is fights at 135 pounds. “Cyborg” has been egging both the UFC and Rousey to meet halfway for a catchweight bout, but Dana White, the UFC’s president has other things in mind by saying that Ronda Rousey is a champion and fights at 135, and if Cyborg wants to fight, she has to come down (as Cyborg would be the challenger gunning for her shot at the UFC gold).

The UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion has said that Cyborg could easily have the fight happen if she would just lose the steroids and cut weight for 135 pounds. Cyborg is very much annoyed at this statement by Rousey saying that her doping incident happened in 2011 and she has passed all the exams that take place. She stated that she has already passed six examinations and that Rousey should stop accusing her of something that she cannot prove.

It is indeed in the interest of the fans to see Cyborg fight Rousey, but whose side is willing to give way, that is something we all have to watch out for.

T.J. Dillashaw Wants Former Champion Dominick Cruz For Next Bout

T.J. Dillashaw Wants Former Champion Dominick Cruz For Next Bout

ufc logo

After winning for the second time against Renan Barao, the reigning Bantamweight Champion wants to face off against the former champion, Dominick Cruz.

Dominick Cruz was the first Bantamweight champion of the UFC until his knee injuries kept getting in his way which lead to him being unable to participate in fights and eventually being stripped off of his championship. It should be noted that Cruz never lost his belt inside the ring, but it was due to his health.

Dillashaw has stated in his post-fight session that he wants to fight Cruz as a way of ending the debate of who really is the Bantamweight champion of the UFC since Cruz never lost it inside the octagon. Dillashaw has stated that this fight would solidify his claim on the bantamweight championship he currently holds. Many people still regard Cruz as a very dominant fighter and Dillashaw wants to prove that he is the real champion by taking on the challenge of one of the Bantamweights greats.

Dominick Cruz is slated to return to the UFC in the latter part of 2015 if he keeps himself healthy and injury free. It’s his knee problems that have kept the former champion from returning to active fighting duty and has been on and off the octagon for almost four years. After Dillashaw’s victory against Renan Barao who was dubbed as one of the UFC’s greatest, Dillashaw has now set his sights from proving himself, to making a statement by dominating the Bantamweight division.

Jose Aldo Out Of UFC 189 Title Defense Due to Injury

Jose Aldo Out Of UFC 189 Title Defense Due to Injury

ufc logo

UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo will have to sit out his title defense on Saturday, July 11 in Las Vegas due to a rib injury.

Aldo was set to fight Conor McGregor of Ireland for the UFC Featherweight Championship. Instead, McGregor will be facing Chad Mendes for the Interim Featherweight Title.

McGregor has always shown interest of challenging the champion, even going straight at Aldo after a fight and shouting at his face and challenging the champion for a bout. The idea of the fight lingered for a bit before the UFC announced it a few months back.

The anticipation and the build up was very big for this fight that when reports of Aldo’s rib injury came out, UFC President Dana White was confident that the Featherweight Champion would still be able to show up for the fight. Unfortunately, Aldo (according to the UFC’s announcement) suffered a rib contusion and a damaged cartilage during training, forcing the champion to pull out of the fight.

Controversy soon took place after conflicting statements were made about Aldo’s injury. Brazilian physicians diagnosed it as a fractured rib while the UFC announced it as a rib contusion, an injury which Dana White has stated, “common to fighters”. He noted that lightweight fighter Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone had the injury, fought and still won a fight. Dana White has expressed his disappointment in the change up of the fight due to these circumstances.

Fighting for the UFC Featherweight Interim Championship belt would be #3 Conor McGregor against 2 time title contender #1 Chad Mendes (before the ranking shift due to Aldo’s withdrawal, Mendes was number 1 and Edgar was number 2).

Jon Jones Hit-And-Run Accident: 911 Call And Video Footage Released (VIDEO)

Jon Jones Hit-And-Run Accident: 911 Call And Video Footage Released (VIDEO)

ufc logo on black background

Police releases 911 call and footage of what has transpired to Jon “Bones” Jones’ hit-and-Run altercation back in April. In the footage, we see the 3 car pile where the accident happened.

The incident happened in Albuquerque, New Mexico on a Sunday, April 26. Witnesses said that Jones’ silver Buick SUV ran the red light and hit two cars. Former UFC Championship Jon “Bones” Jones was reported to have fled the scene and came back earlier to get a “wad of cash” as heard on the video.

Also in the video, we can hear the 911 call made after the incident and reported Jones going over fences trying to take-off from the scene of the crash. The footage is provided by the police body camera worn by the responding officer. We also see one of the people in the crash, Vanessa Sonnenberg who Jones hit. Sonnenberg was seen on the street with an ice pack on her wrist. Vanessa Sonnenberg felt “dizzy” at the scene, and because she was also pregnant, she had to be brought in the hospital for further evaluation. Luckily, she only suffered a broken arm and a wrist.

There was a felony warrant issued for Jones’ arrest as he fled the scene of the incident. It can also be noted in the footage that the officers did realize it was the fighter’s car after checking the paperwork left behind by Jones.

Jon Jones is currently out on bond while awaiting word from the Bernalillo County DA. If Jones get convicted, he is to face up to 3 years of prison time.

Jon Jones Suspended And Stripped Of His Title By UFC

Jon Jones Suspended And Stripped Of His Title By UFC

MMA fighter Jon Jones

Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Jon “Bones” Jones has been stripped of his Light- Heavyweight Title and has been suspended indefinitely after a hit-and-run incident last Sunday where a 25-year old pregnant woman has suffered a broken arm.

The former champion turned himself over to police custody Monday. Witnesses accounted for a man that fits Jones’ description ran a red light, hit another vehicle and left on foot. Police reports stated that the man apparently went back to his car to get a “large handful of cash” before leaving the site again. The driver of the car that was hit, a 25-year old pregnant woman, suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

The UFC explained the move in a statement: “UFC feels strongly that its athletes must uphold certain standards in and out of the Octagon. While there is disappointment in the recent charges, the organization remains to be supportive of Jones as he works through the legal progress.

It was not just the UFC who has made decisions about this matter, Reebok has also terminated Jones’ endorsement contract immediately.

Jones has tweeted Tuesday, “Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I’ve let down.”

The 27-year old fighter has also been pulled out of his May 23 fight where he was supposed to defend his title against Anthony Johnson. Taking his place in the bout will be Daniel Cormier, who will fight against Johnson for the now vacant UFC Light-Heavyweight Title.

Tito Ortiz Compliments Rival Dana White For Signing CM Punk To Join UFC

Tito Ortiz Compliments Rival Dana White For Signing CM Punk To Join UFC

Tito Ortiz interview with TMZ Sports

You may remember that former wrestling champ CM Punk was recently fired (and on his wedding day, no less) by WWE’s Vince McMahon. Well, CM Punk wasn’t unemployed for long after he was signed by UFC head Dana White—a decision that Jacob Christopher “Tito” Ortiz actually thinks was a good idea.

The odd thing, fans would know, is the fact that 39-year-old Ortiz is praising White’s decision, despite the fact that they’ve been feuding for years and almost got to face each other in the ring back in 2007.

“They’re making money,” Ortiz told TMZ Sports about the decision that will reportedly benefit the UFC. “It’s great for them.”

Anderson Silva Rushed To Hospital After Training Session

Anderson Silva Rushed To Hospital After Training Session

Another Silvais on UFC-related news today.

Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva was rushed to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning after experiencing some leg problems.

He had just finished training, which involves a lot of jiu-jitsu, at X-Gym when he reportedly felt severe back pain while trying to stand up. He and his team realized the emergency when the athlete could no longer feel his legs. He was released from the hospital Tuesday morning.

Braziliam MMA Athletic Commission medical director, Dr. Marcio Tannure, told Combate.com, “He felt a severe pain because of the contracture. It really hurts a lot, but it won’t change anything in terms of training.”

Don’t worry, it’s not expected to keep him from returning for his five-round fight against middleweight headliner Nick Diaza at UFC 183 in Las Vegas on January 31.

Tannure assured, “The issue he had explains the pain, but won’t get him sidelined or even cancel the bout.”

Wanderlei Silva On Fighting Chael Sonnen: “Come Get It”

Wanderlei Silva On Fighting Chael Sonnen: “Come Get It”

matt-serra-silva

Both Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen may be retired from mixed martial arts competitions, but it’s possible that the two MMA stars may not be backing out when it comes to facing each other in the right.

Or, at least, Silva won’t.

While posing as a guest commentator at the XFC International 7 event in Sao Paolo, Brazil on Saturday, Silva was asked by XFC president Myron Molotky whether or not he would return to fight Sonnen.

“Are you ready to do this? Let’s do this,” Molotky asked (according to MMAFighting.com), to which the MMA fighter proudly responded, “If (Sonnen) accepts the fight, why not? I’d do it. Why not? I’m here. Come get it.”

It’s pretty odd considering he sufficiently trash talked the UFC after his retirement and swore he’d never fight for another promotion again, following the evasion of a drug test in Nevada and a lifetime ban. As for Sonnen, he had to give up MMA, as well as his FOX broadcasting job, after testing positive for drugs twice.

If the two were to settle things in the ring, they will have to do it without an overseeing sanctioning body due to their current suspensions and one place where they can have it is reportedly in Brazil.

At this point, Silva has nothing to lose. The question is, would Sonnen risk the possibility of other prospects hiring him just to face Silva?

Rising UFC Fighter Elias Theodorou Used To Be A Romance Novel Cover Boy

Rising UFC Fighter Elias Theodorou Used To Be A Romance Novel Cover Boy

Untitled-2

Here’s Elias Theodorou, whom you may know as one of the fast rising UFC middleweight fighters to date. If you don’t, well, you (or your girlfriend or mom) may just remember him from one of those romance novel covers at your local bookstore.

Also known as “The Spartan,” this 26-year-old Ontario native was first Canadian winner of “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations” and recently became somewhat famous after earning himself a spot in the finals against Sheldon Westcott. He has since signed a six-figure contract with the UFC. His fight opposite Westcott was indeed a good career starter, as he effectively showcased versatility and his ability to work up an efficient strategy.

Aside from fighting in the ring, Theodorou has admitted to doing some modeling, acting and doing stunt work in order to support his career and make a living on the regional fight circuit.

“There’s no way fighting on these smaller shows that you’re going to make enough money to support yourself just from fighting,” Theodorou said. “So you have to find other ways.”

But it seems they’re not what garnered him a few teasing remarks from his friends and early fans. It’s his modeling on romance novel covers that was the highlight of his career.

He shared with a laugh, “They do like to bust my [chops] a little bit, but it doesn’t hurt my bragging to the ladies,” he said with a laugh. “[My friends] may want to bust my [chops] when they see one of my covers, but when we go out, it works in my favor.”

The covers have been resurfacing online and seemingly promoting his upcoming fight with Bruno Santos this coming Saturday in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
