Soccer Star Neymar Admits To Being Inspired By Michael Jordan (Video)

Soccer Star Neymar Admits To Being Inspired By Michael Jordan (Video)

neymar

Several months ago, it was announced that Neymar would be part of the Nike/Jordan collaboration as the brand releases their first Jordan soccer cleats. Fast forward to today, we’re finally seeing the bad ass pair of shoes–and finding out why the soccer superstar was also the perfect choice for Nike.

Apparently, Neymar actually wanted to be like Michael Jordan even when he was a kid and had long been patronizing the Jordan line. And in the new commercial, Neymar not only shows off the new shoes but also gushes about his idol and how he inspired him to achieve greatness.

We suppose that means his collaboration with the brand was simply a way of thanking the veteran basketball star… and raking money from the endorsements, too. Win win situation!

Check out the shoes and find out what else Neymar had to say about his idol below:

Swedish Soccer Player Given A Red Card For Farting During Match

Swedish Soccer Player Given A Red Card For Farting During Match

red_main_1689473a

Here’s something you don’t see or hear a lot–at least not during a perfectly innocent and organized soccer match.

Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, left-back of Järna SK’s reserve team was playing against Pershagen SK recently when he got a yellow card for passing gas in the middle of the game.

“I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go,” the 25-year-old Ljungkvist said to the Länstidningen Södertälje in a statement. “Then I received two yellow cards and then red. Yes, I was shocked. It’s the strangest thing I have ever experienced in football.”

“I asked the referee, ‘What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?'” Ljungkvist said about the moments following his burst of flatulence. ” ‘No,’ he replied. … I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not.”

Even a member of the other team, Kristoffer Linde, testified that he “was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear. It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen on a pitch, and I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old.”

“I perceived it as deliberate provocation,” referee Dany Kako said in his defense. “He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card.”

It certainly wasn’t the worst that Kako had seen in a game. “Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too.”

Ljungkvist pressed in another interview with the newspaper Aftonbladet, “To provoke anyone with a fart is not particularly smart or normal. It’s nonsense – I just broke wind and got a red card. I spoke to the referee afterwards, I was annoyed, but there were no bad words. I just said he was a buffoon.”

U.S. Women’s Soccer Star Arrested For DUI In Portland

U.S. Women’s Soccer Star Arrested For DUI In Portland

abby wambach mugshot

Abby Wambach has been busted for driving under the influence (of alcohol) in downtown Portland over the weekend.

The world cup star was caught by Portland police when she allegedly ran a red light, and then failed the field sobriety test and breathalyzer. Even though her blood alcohol level wasn’t revealed, she does appear incredibly glassy eyed in her mug shot.

Looks like it was an honest mistake though. Portland PD said she was very “polite and cooperative” during her DUI arrest. She also made a public apology for her loved ones and fans, saying she takes full responsibility for her actions and will “do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated.”

Abby retired late last year after winning the World Cup and was partners with Caitlyn Jenner in a golf tournament a couple of days ago.

Germany Crowned World Cup 2014 Champion

Germany Crowned World Cup 2014 Champion

After long stretches of games with relentless players trying to kick the ball to the goal, this year’s World Cup in Brazil has finally come to an end.

Germany came out on top after an intense physical, psychological, and emotional skirmish with Argentina. The Deutsch placed first out of 32 national teams and scored their fourth World Cup championship behind Mario Götze’s late goal, the only goal scored in the finals.

Götze, who was subbed in for forward Miroslav Klose, scored in the second half of extra time at the 113th minute. It was the second-latest goal in World Cup finals history, a mere 3 minutes ahead of Andres Iniesta’s winning goal against the Netherlands in 2010. Super Mario, as he is now known, controlled teammate André Schürrle’s beautiful cross using his chest and flicked his left foot to strike the ball past Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who reacted a split-second too late.

Argentina had a chance to equalize with Lionel Messi, the best player (Golden Ball) of the tournament and perhaps of the world, earned a free kick from minutes beforethe whistle. Unfortunately, it went high over the bar; Messi missed their last shot at the championship.

That was it for Argentina.

That was it for Germany.

That was it for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Team USA’s Most Famous Player Left Off World Cup Team

Team USA’s Most Famous Player Left Off World Cup Team

Landon Donovan will not represent Team USA next month at the World Cup in Brazil.

U.S. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann released his roster Thursday and the list did not include the 32-year-old attacker.  The four forwards for the Americans are Aron Johannsson, Chris Wondolowski, Jozy Altidore, and Clint Dempsey.

Donovan was bidding to make his fourth World Cup roster.  He is USA’s all-time international leader in several categories, including goals (57), World Cup games (12), and World Cup goals (5).  Donovan has played in 156 international games, second all-time.

The news is a big surprise to soccer enthusiasts, especially considering Team USA’s lack of experience in World Cup play.  Apparently Coach Klinsmann values youth and speed over savvy veteran players.

“It’s an exciting moment when you have narrowed the roster down as a coaching staff, and these 23 players that you’ve chosen can focus now purely on Brazil,” Klinsmann said in a statement.

Donovan is perhaps best remembered for his stunning goal against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup.

Spain Wins The 3rd Straight European Championship Title in a Row

Spain wins the 3rd straight major soccer title in a row in the European Championship final on Sunday.

Spain managed to make four goals, with a final score of 4-0 win against Italy.

“We won being true to our playing style, and by moving the ball the we way we moved it we knew how to take charge of the match,” said Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the team’s captain. “What we do is difficult but we make it look easy.”

Casillas and Spain striker Fernando Torres made their own histories. Torres became the first man to score in two European Championship finals, and Casillas played in his record 100th victory in international soccer.

Check out a recap if you missed the game, and also Spain celebrating.
