Women’s Basketball Coach Fired And Accused Of Discrimination After Suspending Two Players For Dating

Women’s Basketball Coach Fired And Accused Of Discrimination After Suspending Two Players For Dating

Prairie View A&M University logo

Prairie View A&M University’s women’s basketball coach, Dawn Brown, has been fired for suspending two of her players for dating.

In an interview with USA Today Sports, Brown shared that the university told her she had violated Title IX after discriminating against the players—a weird turn out, considering the school’s own Title IX administrator had reportedly approved the players’ suspension.

“Clearly, I feel betrayed and unjustly penalized by this action,” Brown admitted.

Not only that, the former players also filed a complaint alleging that their dismissal discriminated against them because of sexual orientation, aside from violating Title IX. Brown, however, noted that she suspended them because of a team rule that stated, “Players may not have nonprofessional relationships with other players, coaches, managers trainers or any other persons affiliated” with their team. She had enacted the rule after a previous incident, where an assistant coach was in a relationship with a player.

Looks like both parties will be headed to court with their complaints and appeals.

Any thoughts? Who’s side are you on?
