Hockey Player Stuns Crowd With “Javelin” Goal At KHL Event (Video)

Hockey Player Stuns Crowd With “Javelin” Goal At KHL Event (Video)

ak bars javelin goal

It’s definitely not new for any sports team to pull different sorts of stunts that amaze sports fans everywhere, especially for Russian sports teams.

Just in time before the KHL preseason, the Ak-Bars Kazan team held a fan event at their home arena in over the weekend. Naturally, everyone from the team did their best to entertain their psyched fans, but none of them quite stunned the crowd like forward Vladimir Tkachyov.

Instead of just striking the puck in between legs (because let’s face it, that’s not new), the 23-year-old Ukranian scooped the puck up with his stick, carried it towards the goal and actually threw the whole stick into the net like a javelin.

It was nice that Tkachyov decided to do it then, because he won’t be able to when he’s in the middle of an actual game.

Watch the amazing trick shot below:

New Cities Apply To Join The NHL

New Cities Apply To Join The NHL

national hockey league

Las Vegas and Quebec City has embarked on a journey to join the National Hockey League (NHL). With the help of Bill Foley, Las Vegas might just get their own professional sport’s team and Quebec City is being backed up by Quebecor, a telecom and media company based in Canada.

The bids for the two cities were submitted by their backers, Bill Foley for Las Vegas and Quebecor for Quebec City. To be able to bid, these potential owners had to make a down payment of 10 million dollars each. Bill Foley is a billionaire businessman who heads the group Hockey Vision Las Vegas and has been eyeing the gambling central for a hockey team, while Quebecor as a media conglomerate wants to bring back Quebec City as a home to a hockey team after the Nordiques moved.

The bids from the two cities, Las Vegas and Quebec City were received last Monday, just before the deadline for expansion biddings. Out of all the 16 that expressed any interests in an expansion, only these 2 cities were the only one who pushed through.

Las Vegas has been home for big sporting events like boxing and MMA, but they have never had a home team in any of the 4 major leagues that are in the United States. Quebec City used to host to the Nordiques before they left for Denver and started to be called the Colorado Avalanche.

Expansions to any league and sport is always welcome in the sporting world as it would not only generate income for the home cities but also for more talents to get involved with the sport.

25 Fascinating Facts about Current Sports

25 Fascinating Facts about Current Sports

Things are heating up in the playoff races for hockey, basketball, and auto racing. Check out these 25 fascinating facts, and be sure to visit SportsFascination on Monday for our exclusive write-up of 25 fascinating facts about Sunday’s March Madness NCAA Tournament selection:

NCAA Men’s Basketball

NCAA Basketball Facts

1. Florida became the first college basketball team to go undefeated in the SEC conference for an entire season.

2. In the past 15 years, no other team has gone undefeated in a major conference.

3. No ACC team will enter the conference championship tournament with a winning streak longer than two.

4. The American Athletic Conference’s final standings were so close, conference leaders Cincinnati and Louisville had to determine the top seed in the AAC tourney by a coin flip, which Cincy won.

5. Kansas won its tenth straight Big 12 conference title. 70% of the conference could get entries into the March Madness tournament.

NCAA Basketball Facts

6. Still, Kansas might be the second-best team in the state, after Wichita State went undefeated in the regular season.

7. Doug McDermott is a virtual shoe-in for the All-America first team. This will be his third straight appearance, the first time a player has done this since Patrick Ewing and Wayman Tisdale way back in the 1980s.

8. After winning the Missouri Valley Conference tournament, Wichita State will become the first team to enter the NCAA tourney without a loss since UNLV in 1991.

9. Kentucky, the preseason number 1 team, fell out of the top 25 rankings. This is only the fourth time the preseason top team has fallen out of the top 25 in the same season.

10. The Wildcats only have a few days to get back into the top 25 poll. Otherwise they will become only the second team to start at number 1 and then finish unranked, along with 1965-66 UCLA. Keep in mind, in 1965-66 they only ranked the top 20 teams in the AP poll.

11. In fact, Kentucky is the first preseason number 1 to fall out of the AP rankings since they expanded to ranking the top 25 teams

NBA

NBA Basketball Facts

12. The Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat are vying for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. No other team is within 9.5 games of these two power squads.

13. Top-seeded Indiana has lost four games in a row, the longest losing streak of any team in the NBA besides Cleveland and Philadelphia.

14. The Philadelphia 76ers have lost a whopping 17 games in a row.

15. The record for most consecutive losses in the NBA is 26, by the 2010-2011 Lebron James-less Cleveland Cavaliers

NBA Basketball Facts

16. Should the playoffs start today, Atlanta would make the last seed in the Eastern conference with a 27-35 record. Interestingly, that is 9 games behind the Western Conference’s 8th seed, the 36-26 Memphis Grizzlies.

17. This is the first time since 1982 that the top two teams in a conference lost 3 straight games, yet managed to stay atop their conference.

18. If the NBA draft goes according to ESPN’s current projections, 8 of the top 10 picks will be teenagers.

NHL

19. 6 out of the 7 teams in the Western Conference’s Central division have winning records. Last place Nashville is 27-28.

20. While Pittsburgh’s 90 points wouldn’t put them atop either division in the Western Conference, it’s good enough for a whopping 16-point lead in their Eastern Conference Metropolitan division.

NHL Hockey Facts

21. The New York Islanders made history in their 7-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks. All 7 Islander goals happened in the 3rd period, and each goal was scored by a different player.

22. The last team to score 7 goals in a period, all by different players, was the 1998-1999 Washington Capitals. Their opponent was also the Vancouver Canucks.

NASCAR

NASCAR Facts

23. Kurt Busch announced he will attempt to do two races in one day, including the longest race of the NASCAR season. No driver has competed in the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in over a decade.

24. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. became the 5th driver since 1972 to start a season with three consecutive top two finishes, even though he ran out of gas in the last lap of one of those finishes.

25. 76-year-old Richard Petty agreed to a head-to-head race with Danica Patrick. Petty hasn’t raced in 25 years.
