Lionel Messi Gets 21-Month Prison Term For Tax Fraud

Lionel Messi Gets 21-Month Prison Term For Tax Fraud

lionel messi

What’s the heck is happening to Lionel Messi?

Following his sensational retirement from international football (after another heartbreaking loss to Chile at the 2016 Copa America finals), the Barcelona star and his father Jorge Horacio are sentenced to 21 months in jail and was handed with a $4.1 million fine after being found guilty of tax fraud.

According to reports, the 29-year-old 5-time FIFA World Player winner had not paid his taxes on the 4.16 euros of his income from his image rights from 2007 to 2009, and even used companies in Belize, Britain, Switzerland and Uruguay to avoid paying them. However, because they’re first time offenders, Spain will most likely pardon them from actually being thrown into the slammer.

Messi and his father voluntarily paid 5.0 million euros in total unpaid taxes plus interest in August 2013 after being formally investigated.

Showtime Sues Manny Pacquiao’s Promoter Over Mayweather Fight

Showtime Sues Manny Pacquiao’s Promoter Over Mayweather Fight

Pacquiao and Mayweather

A little over a year after Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather’s championship blockbuster in Las Vegas, Showtime Networks  Inc. is suing the boxing promoter Top Rank Inc.

In the suit filed in federal court in New York on Wednesday, Showtime claims that Pacman’s promoter was contractually obligated “to defend and indemnify” Showtime, but allegedly failed to in the events after it was widely revealed that Pacquiao had failed to disclose the fact that he had injured his shoulder prior to the fight.

Showtime then complains that they had been named in numerous post-fight lawsuits and had to pay legal fees, despite Top Rank’s alleged obligation to indemnify and defend them.

Showtime alleges breach of contract and other counts, and is also asking for a declaration that Top Rank was obligated to indemnify them.

San Francisco 49ers Ex-Announcer Sues Team For Firing Him Allegedly Due To Old Age

San Francisco 49ers Ex-Announcer Sues Team For Firing Him Allegedly Due To Old Age

The 49ers are being sued, nearly 2 years after they fired their stadium announcer for 30 years.

According to the ex-announcer, 66-year-old Bob Sarlatte, he was fired after the 49ers CEO Jed York began a “campaign to terminate the older senior employees within the 49ers organization.”

In the lawsuit that he filed, Sarlatte says York had admitted that he wanted to replace the oldies with younger people because “they made a lot of money, they did a lot of cool things before they turned 40 years old, and they don’t want to play golf six days a week.”

He also claims that the management had made derogatory remarks about old people in the office, as if to drive them out. He was eventually terminated over the phone.

Sarlatte is suing the team for age discrimination and is seeking unspecified damages.

Derek Jeter Didn’t Want His Frigo Undies Marketed To Gays?

Sports news reports that Derek Jeter didn’t want his Frigo underwear line marketed to gays, but the former baseball star heavily denies such allegations.

You may have heard initial reports that the Yankees legend is being sued for $30 million by the brand after he allegedly backed out of a huge deal that involved him serving as a director of the company and doing publicity events for the brand. The guys at Frigo also said that Jeter threw a fit over the selection of rapper 50 Cent as a brand ambassador because he felt that it would make the brand “too urban.”

And just recently, the guys at Frigo has filed new court documents in Delaware. They stated, “[Jeter] demanded that [Frigo] not market to the gay community and states that he did not want the Frigo brand to be ‘too gay.'” It added that Jeter demanded the company stop making the undies “sporty” because it might harm his relationship with Nike.

“The Captain,” of course, has denied both claims.

Who do you believe?
