Olympic Gold Medal-Winning Wrestler Wants To Fight In UFC

Olympic Gold Medal-Winning Wrestler Wants To Fight In UFC

kyle snyder

Kyle Snyder, the youngest American to ever win a wrestling gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, wants to pursue a UFC career.

The 22-year-old Ohio State University junior took to Twitter on Sunday to make his intentions public and even tagged the company to make sure he was heard.

The brief tweet came days after he posted a photo of himself with UFC champion, Tyron Woodley, presumably taken after attending the UFC 203 in Cleveland on Saturday night.

He later explained to Fox Sports:

I want to fight. Basically what that tweet means. I love wrestling, I really do. I would want to continue wrestling but I want to do both at the same time. I want to pursue my wrestling career, wrestle in World Championships and the Olympic games, but if the scheduling could work out and I can become an elite fighter, then I want to fight in the UFC as well.

They put on a great show, it’s really exciting. I think it’s something that I could excel in. I haven’t done much boxing or jiu-jitsu or striking or stuff like that but I think that I could pick it up pretty quickly. The crowd and the way they made the whole thing a big show was just exciting for me. It’s something that I want to do.

If he ever joins the UFC roster, he will have become the most accomplished and decorated mixed martial arts fighter.

Simone Biles Explains Gymnastics Hiatus: “A Break Is Needed”

Simone Biles Explains Gymnastics Hiatus: “A Break Is Needed”

simone biles

Five-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is still adamant about taking a year-long break from competitive gymnastics.

The 19-year-old athlete from Boston, who brought home 4 golds after the recently concluded Rio Olympics, explains her reason for taking some much-needed time off on “Good Morning America” today:

“To travel and train, there’s just like no way I can do 100 percent so a break is needed.”

Just in time too, as she obviously has a lot on her plate. Since her win, she has met Beyonce and Kim Kardashian while presenting at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. She was welcomed like “crazy” too when she came back to her hometown last month.

“You dream of these things for so long and then it happens and you’re like, ‘Oh, what else do I want now?’” she said.

Aside from touring the country with some of her fellow “Final Five” gold medalist teammates for the 2016 Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, she’s also writing her first autobiography, “Courage to Soar,” which is set to be released in November.

“I’m super-excited,” Biles said of the book. “It’s just about my life so that they hear it from me.”

Ex-Giants Great Lawrence Taylor Gets Busted For DUI (PHOTOS)

Former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was busted for driving under the influence in Florida over the weekend.

According to a report by WPTV, the 57-year-old Hall of Famer had sideswiped a patrol car and a motor home as he tried to switch lanes while driving his Bentley in Palm Beach Gardens at around 5:30 p.m.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported and only the patrol car’s side mirror was damaged. Taylor was reportedly taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

It definitely isn’t Taylor’s first run-in with the law. Aside from admitting to using cocaine during his NFL career, he pleaded guilty to patronizing a prostitute and having sex with a minor in 2010. He was also arrested twice for attempting to buy crack.

Tim Tebow’s MLB Tryouts: See What The Scouts Are Saying

Tim Tebow’s MLB Tryouts: See What The Scouts Are Saying

tim tebow

Former NFL star Tim Tebow finally showcased his baseball skills during a media-covered try out (dubbed the nth TebowTime) in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 29-year-old tried to impress 42 major-league scouts for 27 MLB teams in hopes of securing a professional contract.

Tebow initially wanted to be a baseball player, even before he decided to pursue a future in football after junior year in high school. After bagging a Heisman Trophy in 2007 with the Florida Gators and enjoying a brief career with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, here he is trying to revive his first dream.

So on Tuesday, he ran an above-average 60-yard dash, did outfield throwing drills, did a batting practive and, finally, a live batting practice against recent major-league relievers David Aardsma and Chad Smith.

How did it go? Well, it looks like he’s still going to have to wish for it a little harder. Check out what some of the scouts had to say about Tebow below.

Jim Bowden of ESPN graded below average in 5 categories, according to 12 MLB scouts at the workout. With the scale going from 20-80 (with 50 being the MLB average), Tebow’s score went was:

Arm – 40 (No carry)
Fielding – 45 (Needs footwork)
Hitting – 35 (Grooved uppercut swing)
Power – 55 (Raw power)
Running – 55 (6.7 60-yard dash time)

Guess we’ll have to find out when he can try out again… or if a scout decides to give him a chance and train him as hard as possible. Meanwhile, Tebow needs to improve if he wants a real chance at the MLB.

Ronda Rousey Not Returning To The Octagon This 2016?

Ronda Rousey Not Returning To The Octagon This 2016?

It’s been a while since Ronda Rousey was seen at a UFC match, and it looks like she won’t be returning anytime soon despite previous rumors.

During her appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the former bantamweight champion will not be seen in action in the highly anticipated UFC 205 fight, which will happen in New York City on November 12.

She’s definitely not fighting in New York. I’m actually going to start building the New York card this week,” White said.

The last time the UFC star fought was in the UFC 193, which was in November last year; it was the match where she relinquished the bantamweight championship to Holly Holms after being brutally knocked out, which also happens to be her first UFC loss.

This New York fight is a historic event for the UFC since the state had banned an MMA fight in 1997, and even though this is a celebrated event, and may be the right time for her return, Rousey made a pass.

Despite her being M.I.A since the said event, White said that although nothing is planned yet, the discussion for Rousey’s return is on going and there is still a chance to see her back at the Octagon before this year ends.

There are still hope to see her fight at UFC 206 in Toronto on Dec. 10 or UFC 207 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas.

Ryan Lochte Dropped By Speedo And Other Sponsors After Drunken Incident At Rio

Ryan Lochte Dropped By Speedo And Other Sponsors After Drunken Incident At Rio

ryan lochte for speedo

Ryan Lochte took a major financial hit on Monday following news (and a video surveillance) of him and three of his U.S. teammates getting into a confrontation with armed security guards after allegedly vandalizing a gas station bathroom, which he initially passed off as an armed robbery, just hours after a post-competition party in Rio de Janeiro.

First, swimsuit company Speedo USA decided to donate what should’ve been Lochte’s $50,000 USD to Brazil’s Save The Children and announced in a statement:

While we have enjoyed a winning relationship with Ryan for over a decade and he has been an important member of the Speedo team, we cannot condone behaviour that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for. We appreciate his many achievements and hope he moves forward and learns from this experience.

Clothing giant Ralph Lauren, which provided the U.S. team’s attire at the opening and closing ceremonies, said they would not be renewing Lochte’s contract that provided the athlete with financial support leading up to this year’s Olympics. Japanese mattress maker airweave said it had a similar arrangement with Lochte. Both companies stressed that they would still continue their support of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Syneron-Candela, which offers a line of skin-treatment products, said in a statement, “We hold our employees to high standards, and we expect the same of our business partners.

Lochte has only commented on Speedo’s decision so far, saying,“I respect Speedo’s decision and am grateful for the opportunities that our partnership has afforded me over the years.

HBO No Longer Covering Manny Pacquiao Fights

HBO No Longer Covering Manny Pacquiao Fights

manny pacquiao bradley post-fight press conference

Just a couple of months after he announced his retirement, Filipino Boxing Superstar Manny Pacquiao recently announced that he will be returning to the ring to take on Jessie Vargas. Now, latest sports news reports that HBO would not be covering the event.

The said match will be happening on November 5, and unlike his previous match announcements, this one did not really excite and light up the whole world even though he is facing a unheralded opponent. The real surprise was when HBO announced that they will not be the one to distribute the PPV rights of the event which was confirmed by none other than, Bob Arum.

“Definitely it’s not going to be HBO. HBO had a contract and decided to pass because it was two weeks in front of their Ward-Kovalev fight,” Arum said.

With this move, HBO is officially relinquishing the rest of their rights to Pacman’s fights. It is interesting that they are walking away from it as this will mean that possible money-making rematches, such as one with with Mayweather, will not be automatically aired on the channel.

According to Arum, now that HBO is out, other channels are now on the table to compete for airing rights, such as ESPN, a Turner network, and even Showtime.

“I haven’t spoken to them (Showtime). But there would be no impediment to that. When I get back next week, Stephen (Espinoza) will be one of the guys I’m calling,” he said.

Daryl Homer Wins Historic American Silver In Fencing At 2016 Rio Olympics

Daryl Homer Wins Historic American Silver In Fencing At 2016 Rio Olympics

daryl homer

Daryl Homer had a really good fighting chance to win the first gold medal in over a century for the United States of America at the fencing finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics on Wednesday, but he eventually lost 15-8 to rival Aron Szilagui of Hungary. Still, he makes history by becoming the first American to ever win a silver medal in men’s individual sabre.

The 26-year-old silver medalist from the 2015 World Fencing Championships also succeeds Peter Westbrook, who was the first American to bring home an Olympic medal in individual saber (a bronze, in 1984).

“I’m just very, very pleased,” Homer said. “Just happy to be on the podium, happy that I competed, happy that I left it all out there. I think I just overthought the match a little bit, got a little of the heebie-jeebies.”

The Olympic saber fencer seems to have been inspired by his mom, who was also intrigued by the sport after seeing fencers in her children’s book. Daryl later became very interested in the sport after seeing a commercial featuring two fencers promoting New York City’s bid to host the 2012 Olympics. After that, as they say, the rest was history.

Dutch Cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten Suffers Horrific Crash At Rio Olympics 2016 (Video)

Dutch Cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten Suffers Horrific Crash At Rio Olympics 2016 (Video)

annemiek van vleuten cycling accident at rio olympics 2016

A day after French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg while competing for men’s gymnastics on Saturday, Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten also becomes a victim of a horrible injury during the women’s road race at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Van Vleuten was leading the race when she cycled through a tight right-hander for her final descent and control of her bike. She then flipped head over heels and landed with her head in the gutter off the side of the road.

The 33-year-old biker was motionless for a while after the crash, but was said to be conscious and in shock. She was later brought to intensive care with concussion and three fractures to her spine.

Former gold medallist Chris Boardman said of the incident: “I’m actually quite angry about it because I looked at the road furniture and thought nobody can crash here and get up.”

Fellow Dutch star Anna van der Breggen later claimed gold.

Soccer Star Neymar Admits To Being Inspired By Michael Jordan (Video)

Soccer Star Neymar Admits To Being Inspired By Michael Jordan (Video)

Several months ago, it was announced that Neymar would be part of the Nike/Jordan collaboration as the brand releases their first Jordan soccer cleats. Fast forward to today, we’re finally seeing the bad ass pair of shoes–and finding out why the soccer superstar was also the perfect choice for Nike.

Apparently, Neymar actually wanted to be like Michael Jordan even when he was a kid and had long been patronizing the Jordan line. And in the new commercial, Neymar not only shows off the new shoes but also gushes about his idol and how he inspired him to achieve greatness.

We suppose that means his collaboration with the brand was simply a way of thanking the veteran basketball star… and raking money from the endorsements, too. Win win situation!

Check out the shoes and find out what else Neymar had to say about his idol below:

Hockey Player Stuns Crowd With “Javelin” Goal At KHL Event (Video)

Hockey Player Stuns Crowd With “Javelin” Goal At KHL Event (Video)

ak bars javelin goal

It’s definitely not new for any sports team to pull different sorts of stunts that amaze sports fans everywhere, especially for Russian sports teams.

Just in time before the KHL preseason, the Ak-Bars Kazan team held a fan event at their home arena in over the weekend. Naturally, everyone from the team did their best to entertain their psyched fans, but none of them quite stunned the crowd like forward Vladimir Tkachyov.

Instead of just striking the puck in between legs (because let’s face it, that’s not new), the 23-year-old Ukranian scooped the puck up with his stick, carried it towards the goal and actually threw the whole stick into the net like a javelin.

It was nice that Tkachyov decided to do it then, because he won’t be able to when he’s in the middle of an actual game.

Kimbo Slice’s Son To Follow Father’s Footsteps, Making MMA Debut At Bellator

Kimbo Slice’s Son To Follow Father’s Footsteps, Making MMA Debut At Bellator

kimbo slice and son

Kimbo Slice may have already passed, but his spirit will live on as his son, Kevin Ferguson Jr., joins Bellator.

Dubbed “Baby Slice,” the 24-year-old has already signed and set to debut in the cage at Bellator 160: Henderson vs. Pitbull on August 26. Although his opponent has yet to be picked, he was already signed to the MMA promotion before his father tragically died of congestive heart failure last June 6.

Ferguson Jr. has been training MMA for the past two years and had his first amateur fight in March, when he knocked out his opponent within 84 seconds. The bets are on for his upcoming first professional fight.

“I was always around the fight business and everything, so I saw it and I understood what was going on,” Ferguson told the Associated Press. “I just knew without a doubt that one day, this was what I wanted to do.”

As for how he’s dealing with the loss, Ferguson Jr. told reporters, “I won’t say I adjusted well or it didn’t bother me, but I was talking to him a few days before, so I understood what was going on.”

It was more of a shock to the world, put it like that. It was still a very big tragedy, but I got through it. I’m still getting through it. I won’t say I’m over it, but I’m working on it, I guess.”

Are you looking forward to seeing if Baby Slice is anything like his father in the cage?

Dion Waiters Signs $2.9 Million Deal With Miami Heat

Dion Waiters Signs $2.9 Million Deal With Miami Heat

dion waiters

Dion Waiters has agreed to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and signed a one-year deal worth $2.9 million with the Miami Heat’s Room Exception.

Also according to the report by the Associated Press, Waiters will be with the team for one year but will also be given the option for the second year, which will then bring up his salary to $6 million.

It seems to be part of the team’s campaign to replace Dwayne Wade, who joined the Bulls this summer. The Heat will now be facing the next season with Waiters, as well as Goran Dragic, Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson.

Waiters definitely has yet to improve his game, especially after making several bad decisions on offense in the past as fourth overall pick with the Thunders but perhaps he will have better chemistry with the Heat, hopefully enough to make a much better impression and become a better on-ball defender.
