Best Tweets During the Brazil-Germany World Cup Match

After losing striker Neymar to injury and skipper Thiago Silva to yellow card suspension, Brazil’s hopes to make it to the World Cup 2014 Finals dimmed greatly. As a result, they were defeated by Germany in their semifinal game.

Nobody thought it’d be that bad though.

The Germans scored 5 goals in less than 30 minutes and settled for a comfortable 5-nil advantage at the half. During the second half, they still outscored Brazil, 2 goals to 1. Even Oscar’s goal in the 90th minute looked sad. Losing 7 to 1 at home must be really depressing for the team (It was the worst in its 100-year history.) In the postgame interview, David Luiz tearfully apologized to the nation. Team captain Thiago Silva was also seen comforting his teammates after the game. It was a sad day for the team.

It was a sadder day for the football-crazy Brazilians. And with a record-breaking 35.6 million tweets sent during the match, yep, Brazil really made history. Here are some of the best tweets:
