NBA Playoff Predictions – Conference Finals

(2)Oklahoma City vs. (1) San Antonio

Both the Spurs and Thunder were taken to seven games in their first round series.  With the way each team is playing now, you’d never know they were playing mediocre basketball (by their standards) just a couple weeks ago.  OKC swept the season series over San Antonio 4-games-to-none.  However, on Friday, Thunder big man Serge Ibaka was ruled out of the rest of the playoffs with a left calf injury.  This could be the difference in the series.

R.C Buford of the Spurs is considered the best general manager in the game.  Thunder GM Sam Presti is a Buford disciple, having worked under his mentor seven years ago.  Buford has been with the Spurs for four NBA Championships.  Presti is still looking for his first with the Thunder.  Both are known for great drafting skills.  San Antonio has incredibly maintained excellence despite aging stars Tim Duncan (38), Manu Ginobili (36), and Tony Parker (31).  OKC superstars Kevin Durant (25) and Russell Westbrook (25) are both in their prime.

The Ibaka injury and home court advantage will be the difference.  San Antonio moves on in 6 games.

(2)Miami vs. (1)Indiana

It’s amazing the struggling Pacers even made it this far.  Despite holding the number-1 seed, Indiana was playing some pretty terrible basketball down the stretch of the regular season.  The only reason the Pacers made it back to the Conference Finals is that the East is really, really bad.  With that being said, they have looked a little like their old selves recently.

But even Indiana at (near) its best is not good enough to beat Miami at its peak.  Led by The World’s Best Player,

The Heat can seemingly step on the pedal whenever they want.  When Lebron James gets going, he’s unstoppable.  Even a good defensive team like Indiana can’t contain him.

If Paul George and Roy Hibbert were playing like their 2013 versions, this would go seven games.  Instead, the Heat win easily in 5.
